OpenRTB

OpenRTB has many compelling benefits for both publishers and advertisers. Advertiser demand is high because the technology allows them to cherry pick the impressions that are most likely to meet their campaign goals. For publishers, OpenRTB can deliver 100 percent fill rate for inventory.

And yet, OpenRTB has a downside. A large chunk of product inventory available through today’s programmatic methods is questionable. Ad quality is often not up to par, and publishers display ads on their site that are not compliant with their company policies, including autoredirects, offensive content, drive-by-downloads and malicious activity.

That means that OpenRTB is not without its risks, since chances are great that the ad served is not compliant with the publisher’s company policies. This is often the result of third-party placements, where the publisher has no control over what ad is served and from where. GeoEdge, through API integration, monitors ads coming from OpenRTB, scanning the html snippet of the bid response per the targeting parameters of the bid request. GeoEdge detects and identifies the ad quality threats and proactively helps you to ensure a clean, safe and engaging user experience.

With GeoEdge's solutions, you gain protection and control of your ad inventory served via OpenRTB protocols.

Header Bidding

Header bidding, introduced in early 2009, allows demand sources to submit bids before the ad server callout. On a high level, header bidding involves just a few steps:

  1. The prebid.js library fetches bids from various partners.
  2. Prebid.js passes information about those bids (including price) to the tag on page, which passes it to the ad server as query string parameters.
  3. The ad server has line items targeting those parameters.

While header bidding increases CPM rates for publishers by up to 50 percent, the same risks – malvertising and low ad quality – exist with ads served through header bidding.

Malicious ads, autoredirect ads, offensive ads and other inappropriate content can be served to the user through header bidding. GeoEdge is fully integrated with the prebid.js library, enabling us to scan all header bidding tags from all SSPs, DSPs, platforms, exchanges and ad servers. With GeoEdge, you don’t have to worry about malware or ad quality issues related to header bidding ad serving. In the event of a threat, you are immediately notified so you can act before any real damage occurs to your users. We include the bidder's data within the real-time threat notification, and once the ad is rendered, the winning bidder is clearly identified, along with its winning bid and the presented ad. Our solution ensures protection and control for your header bidding ad campaigns.

In-App

Allowing ads in your app is crucial to your monetization strategy. However, in-app ads, like typical mobile web ads, have a risk.

Ads delivered in app are subject to malvertising and low ad quality. For example, users can be infected or auto-redirected away from your app. GeoEdge has the technology to scan ads within your app's SDK. We can prevent unwanted or noncompliant ads from showing up and disrupting your user's experience.

Protect your mobile, in-app ad inventory with GeoEdge's solutions.

Native Advertising

Native advertising has emerged as a powerful tool to drive revenue and improve the user's engagement experience with ads. However, native ads are powered by third-party agencies, meaning that the publisher cedes control of its property to outsiders. It also means that the publisher could be serving malware if a cybercriminal successfully executes a malvertising campaign.

While native ads have been shown to be low risk for malvertising pre-click, there is a high risk in the post-click. The final landing page could be hacked, a poisoned script could be inserted into the delivery path to redirect the user to a different landing page, or the whole campaign, including the ad, could be designed by the cybercriminals themselves.

GeoEdge stands ready to prevent post-click malware in your native ads. We already work with leading content recommendation platforms and have developed agile technology that continuously scans native ads and their landing pages. Dynamically changing landing pages and malicious campaigns targeting certain users are detected and stopped. With GeoEdge, users are protected from malicious native ad campaigns.
